The 35-year-old actress has revealed she still keeps in touch with her co-stars and the show's writers.

Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, she said, "We're still really close.  We just had a barbeque around Emmy time, and all my 'My So Called Life' buddies came.

"We were just together and it was great and we all felt collectively so old!  I was so little when I made it!"

'My So Called Life' ran from August 25 1994 to January 26 1995 but, despite being cancelled after one season, it garnered a cult following thanks to the combined charisma of Danes and co-star Jared Leto, who now combines a music career with movie stardom.

"It's kind of amazing!" says Danes.  "I'm totally psyched by it.  It's so wonderful and surprising.  We didn't even make through a full season - we only shot 18 or 19 episodes.  We were cancelled!  We failed! Total loser show!

"But it had this incredible afterlife and it just got bought by so many cable stations.  I have friends with teenage kids who are just discovering it and connecting with it.  It's still relevant."
