HAZARIBAG: Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) chairman AWK Langastiec inaugurated two check dams near Hazaribag on Monday.
The dams, constructed by the engineers of DVC’s soil conservation department, will be primarily used for irrigation purposes. Immediately after the inauguration, the chairman said the dams will not just provide irrigation facilities to the poor but also check soil erosion.

He said that DVC has so far constructed 17,000 water-shed projects and check dams. The projects help in generating power from various thermal power stations in the command area of the Damodar basin. DVC is rendering true services to the people of the region under its corporate social responsibility policy, Langastiec said. “The corporation is also rendering free health care services from the seven hospitals set up the region,” he added.
The chairman also said that the corporation has plans to promote fishery in the near future and involve the local farmers in the venture. The money earned from fishing activities will increase their overall income. After taking a tour of the area, Langastiec said fishery can be developed as an industry here.
