MANGALORE: Even when students find learning Mathematics a hard nut to crack, a class 12 student has made his own mark by preparing a book that helps one to excel in SSLC (CBSE) in the subject mathematics. 17-year-old Rahul R Pai, student of Alva’s PU College, Moodbidri, has created ripples in the World of Mathematics through his book.
Rahul, son of Rajendra Pai and Shailaja Pai from Moodbidri, has prepared a comprehensive book, exclusively on Mathematics for SSLC students in the state.
The study material in English, titled ‘Maths Made Easy,’ has everything that SSLC students need before they face their annual exam.
Talent Research Foundation, a city-based NGO, has taken initiatives to publish the book, which has 460 pages of study materials including problems with solutions. 1,000 copies have been printed and the foundation is planning the book at a concessional price to schools Foundation president, Riyaz Ahmed told TOI that though the book costs Rs 190 per copy, they have plans to sell it at Rs 120 for students.
“Many schools have shown interest and demanded copies of the book. If required, we will think of printing additional copies,” said Riyaz. He added that the main objective of the organization is to promote talent in students.
“The talent in Rahul should be brought to light and the benefits of the study material prepared by him should reached all students,” said Riyaz. Meanwhile, Rahul said that he has put in his best efforts to make the book a useful study material for all.“The book has solutions to all the problems in SSLC mathematics text book of the new CBSE syllabus,” the 17-year-old said, adding that he wants to pursue mechanical engineering and IAS. It took a month for Rahul to prepare more than 800 pages of manuscripts for the book. His mother, Shailaja, said that he worked at least 5-7 hours a day to prepare the material.

“We found difficulties while type-setting and designing the pages. Most of the publishers are ready to type-set and design language books, but they were hesitant to work on mathematics book. Finally, Sony Printers of Moodbidri agreed to print the book,” she said.
Further, Rahul’s father, Rajendra, said that his son never dreamt of publishing a book.
“Out of enthusiasm, he started solving problems in the new SSLC Math book. We had no idea of printing it, but the foundation members agreed when we approached,” he said.
