CPM Raikot secretary Santokh Gill attacked, hospitalised

Sub-Inspector Nirmal Singh from Sudhar police station said the police would soon arrest all the accused.

CPM Raikot secretary Santokh Gill was attacked at his residence on Saturday evening. After beating him up brutally, the accused fled.

Gill suffered two fractures in his right leg and other injuries.

The accused were identified as Talwinder Singh alias Nikku of Sudhar, Harpreet Happy, Gurmeet Kaur, Daljit Kaur and some unidentified accomplices.

The police arrested some accused and shopkeepers in the area closed their shops, demanding immediate action against the accused.

Gill was admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.

Gill said that he was helping some shopkeepers in the area who were victims of hooliganism while the police were not acting against them. On September 6 when he reached his house, the accused attacked him and thrashed him with iron rods. One of the accused flashed a gun and threatened to fire, and fled after his wife raised the alarm.

The Sudhar Police registered a case against 12 accused under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restrain), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 356 (assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person), 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 294 (obscene acts and songs), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC and 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
