KOLKATA: Anti-socials and criminals owing allegiance to the Trinamool Congress have hijacked the law and order machinery in West Bengal, BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has alleged.

Free and fair elections to two assembly seats in the state would be possible only if central forces are deployed he said. Chowringhee seat in Kolkata and Basirhat (South) constituency in North 24-Parganas will have by-elections on Saturday and BJP is contesting both seats.

Naqvi led a BJP delegation on Monday, which met chief electoral officer SN Gupta and sought deployment of central forces in all booths in the two assembly seats where by-elections will take place on Saturday.

"Unfortunately, the law and order machinery in Bengal has been hijacked by anti-socials and criminals under the patronage and protection of the chief minister and her government," Naqvi said.
