Seer stops clash with Gandhigiri

Ms Anita Haddanavar arrived on the spot and visited both villages to conduct peace meets

Raichur: By sleeping in the middle of a road, a seer averted a fatal clash between residents of two neighbouring villages carrying sticks and lethal weapons in Deodurg taluk of Raichur on Sunday. Basava Deva Swamy of Vatagal Mutt in Ramanal village literally slept on the road telling the angry mob of Ramanahal and Koppar village that they should cross over him to fight among themselves. People, armed with sticks and lethal weapons cooled down on seeing the ‘Gandhigiri’ adopted by the seer and returned to their villages.

It all started when two people from Ramanal village confronted some villagers of Koppar village and were beaten up. After this incident, when some people of Koppar village visited Ramanahal village, they were assaulted by Ramanahal villagers and this incident led to the clash between neighbouring villagers. Sensing the critical situation, the seer arrived on the spot even before the police and tried to convince the mob to back off. When the people did not listen to him, he slept on the middle of Ramanahal Koppar road saying they could fight only after crossing his body. Stunned and left with no option, people from both villages left. Soon after this, deputy superintendent of police Ms Anita Haddanavar arrived on the spot and visited both villages to conduct peace meets.
