PUNJAB: Four Left Parties Organise Protest Dharna & Demonstration

FOUR Left Parties of Chandigarh and Mohali namely CPI CPI(M), CPM Punjab and CPI (ML) Liberation staged an impressive dharna and held a massive demonstration in Chandigarh at City Centre, Sector 17 on September 2. The dharna was presided over by Raminderpal Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Tarlochan Singh Rana and Lal Bahadur. The leaders of four Left parties have strongly condemned the Modi government and RSS affiliates who are bent upon polarising the people on communal lines which is posing a grave danger to the secular fabric of the country and which is an attack on the spirit of Indian constitution. Speaking on the occasion, Devi Dyal Sharma, Vijay Sharma, Mangat Ram Pasla , Kamaljit Singh , Baldev Singh Jhajj, Kuldeep Singh , Satish Khosla , Satish Kumar, Pritam Singh , Surinder Kaur , Nazar Singh , Sajjan Singh , Chander Shekhar and Navkiran assailed the apathy of Chandigarh administration and educational institutions towards Punjabi language . They demanded the extension of Lal dora of villages, regularise the construction already done, ensure proper rehabilitation of labour colonies well before uprooting people from slum areas, strict implementation of right to education and strong steps against drug menace. They also demanded the repeal of ‘Government and Private Property Damage Control Act’ adopted by Punjab government and lifting of section 144 from Chandigarh. The speakers strongly criticised the sand, gravel and land mafia in and around Chandigarh, rising violence against women and anti-worker amendments in various labour laws. They stressed for Rs 15000 as minimum wages, to fill up the vacant posts and adequate unemployment allowance to all the unemployed. The leaders of the four Left parties appealed to pro-people and right thinking organisations, progressive individuals to stand in support of the Left so that people are enthused to resist the menace of communalism, economic oppression and raise their strong democratic voice.
