The U.S. border crossing facility for the San Diego-Tijuana region is slated to receive approximately $500,000 in new artwork as part of a decade-long modernization project.

The U.S. General Services Administration will be commissioning an artist or artists to create the works for the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry, which has been undergoing a three-phase, $735 million modernization project, The Weekly Standard reported.

Artists have until Oct. 6 to be considered as candidates for the commission at the border crossing facility, coined the “busiest land port of entry in the Western Hemisphere.”

“GSA evaluates artists based on the following criteria: the media, materials, content, style, and scope of the artist’s past work, along with the artist’s past performance and experience with commissions or projects similar to the one described in this synopsis,” the solicitation reads. “At a minimum, the scope of services for this commission will require: collaboration with the lead designer selected for the building project; development of preliminary and final concepts; fabrication of the artwork; participation in meetings and conservation reviews as necessary; and the installation of the artwork at the project site.”
