VADODARA: Tushar Gandhi, the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday for quitting Vadodara Lok Sabha seat. Gandhi said Modi abandoned Vadodara seat after promising development during the poll campaign.
Gandhi was in the city to support Narendra Rawat, Congress candidate for Lok Sabha by-poll. "Modi had promised ?achhe din' for voters but what Vadodara got is another poll within three months.
Barodians feel cheated as they voted with lot of hopes. The voters here have been taken for granted and now they should vote for the right candidate who doesn't desert them," Gandhi said.
"The Election Commission of India (ECI) should allow a candidate to contest from only one seat. And if a candidate is allowed to contest from multiple seats then the candidate who stood second should be considered elected, once the winner quits one of the seats," Gandhi said.
He also said the UPA government had prepared a detailed plan for developing the Dandi route but help never came from Gujarat government. Gandhi said, "Rawat has been working hard for the people here and he is an able leader who can help develop Vadodara," Gandhi said.
