GUWAHATI: Underprivileged children from the city were taken to an amusement park by the Don Bosco Alumni, Guwahati unit.
Around 500 underprivileged kids from Snehalaya shelter home, Don Bosco Evening School and Child Friendly Guwahati (CFG) were recently taken out for a day of fun, games and entertainment to Accoland Amusement Park near Rani, on the outskirts of the city.
The Don Bosco Alumni, Guwahati unit, under the aegis of Don Bosco School, Panbazar, Guwahati, took the initiative for these underprivileged children for many of whom visiting an amusement park was just a dream.
“Alumni members took upon themselves the task of picking up the children from different shelter homes located in various parts of Guwahati and assembling them at Accoland in the morning. Accoland near Rani was decided upon as the venue for the outing, given the fact that such a huge gathering would be able to enjoy the outing in full measure,” said an organizer.
The occasion was the annual ‘Bosco Jayanti’, organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of 19th century Italian catholic priest Saint John Bosco. The children were accompanied by school principal Fr Sebastian Kuricheal, vice-principal Fr Xavier Beck, CFG director Fr Denis Solomon, former teacher Kartick Phukan and scout master R A Lazar along with a host of alumni members.
“It was indeed a noble initiative by the school alumni to bring smiles to the faces of these underprivileged children who enjoyed the outing in full measure,” said an alumnus of Don Bosco School, Panbazar.
Besides serving breakfast and lunch to the kids, study-related gift items and snacks like chips, biscuits and chocolates were also distributed among the children by the alumni members.
