JAMMU, Sept 7: Senior Congress leader and former Minister, Rajinder Singh Chib has demanded special package for the farmers of bordering areas of R S Pura sector, who have suffered huge losses to their crops due to heavy rains followed by floods.
Chib today conducted a visit to take stock of the losses suffered by the residents of Badyal Brahmana, Dherian, Bikrama, Sangwal, Abdullian, Chandu Chak, Bera, Raipur and many other areas of RS Pura sector. After the visit to the flood affected areas, Chib said that an area of about 6000 Acres was totally damaged and more than half of it is still submerged under water, due to which crops were completely damaged.
Chib said it is most unfortunate that no senior official from the District Civil administration had taken pains to take stock of the losses borne by the farmers due to the floods. He urged the civil administration to visit the affected areas and see the inhuman condition in which the residents of these border areas are living.
He also demanded an immediate release of special packages for the farmers of these villages to overcome the huge losses suffered by them. He also demanded an early restoration of the road network damaged by the floods.
Alleging that the water pump sets along with the electric motors and diesel sets have been totally washed away in these flood affected areas and there is no electricity in these villages for last five days, Chib demanded all such effected farmers be provided with pump sets and their electricity bills for the pump sets, used for irrigation purposes be waived off.
