Navi Mumbai shootout drama leads to arrest of gunrunner
NAVI MUMBAI: High drama unfolded just outside the Khandeshwar railway station in Navi Mumbai on Sunday morning after a plain-clothes policeman fired two rounds from his service revolver in self-defence when an illegal arms supplier threatened to shoot him. Soon, nearly a dozen cops hiding behind parked cars came out and nabbed the accused, Surendra Kumar Rajmani Shukla (48), who also played a role in the 2012 quadruple murder case.

Cops said they received a tip-off that he was coming to the area to sell firearms. Shukla, a Surat resident, had obtained bail in the sensational murder case on the ground that he was not directly involved in the crime.
Senior inspector (crime branch) Sunil Bajare said, “Around 10.10am, Shukla was spotted in the parking lot of the Khandeshwar railway station. When API Subhash Shinde approached him, he brandished a pistol and pointed it towards Shinde. As a self-defence measure, Shinde fired two rounds on the ground. He was then surrounded by our men in civvies and nabbed.” Bajare said that Shukla’s pistol was loaded with four bullets. Cops also seized two country-made revolvers from him. Shukla has been booked under the IPC and the Arms Act.
