SURAT: A man surrendered to police in Vansada town of Navsari district on Saturday after setting his wife on fire. The victim was shifted to hospital in hospital by neighbours as the husband left house leaving her burning. Police detained the criminal before the crime got officially registered.
Police arrested Raju Pandit, a resident of Sadadfaliya of Vansada on Saturday as he surrendered in police station.
Arriving at the police station he informed that he torched his wife. Police personnel at the police station were shocked to listen Pandit’s confession. Taking him in custody police started investigation in the case.
Meanwhile, Pandit’s wife Sunita, suffered severe
burn injuries and is in critical condition in hospital. Pandit sprinkled kerosene on Sunita and torched her using cigarette lighter. After torching wife Pandit immediately left the house and directly went to police station.
Police investigation revealed that Pandit suspected that his wife has affair with a man living in neighbouring house. Over the suspicion the couple fought many times in past, neighbours informed. On Saturday the tussle went out of control and Pandit took the ghastly step.
Police are getting forensic examination done of the place in Pandit’s house where Sunita was torched. Police are registering statements of neighbour and relatives for investigation.
