Bhubaneswar: Renovation work at Konark Sun Temple will be completed before the Nabakalebara scheduled to be held in July 2015.
Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan asked the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) and the district administration to expedite the work on Saturday after reviewing the progress of the renovation work.
“Nabakalebara is a big festival during which lakhs of tourists will come to Puri.
They will also visit the Sun Temple and Nabagraha temple of Konark. They must avail the improved facilities at the world famous tourist spot,” said Pradhan.
IOCL Foundation will spend Rs 35 crore on the peripheral development of the world-famous Konark temple. Facilities like construction of an interpretation centre, main parking area, drop out point and development of open areas will be done during the project. The interpretation centre will come up on an area of 7,000 sq metre comprising four display galleries, an audio visual centre with a seating capacity of 200 persons, snacks counter, among other things, official sources said.
According to the plan, the existing museum at Konark will be upgraded to international standards by renovating the galleries and taking up beautification of the museum and its surroundings.
