Attacks on Rahul Gandhi planned, says Beni Prasad Verma

Former union steel minister Beni Prasad Verma Saturday alleged that attacks against Congress vice-president from within the party are being carried out in a planned manner.

?Post Lok Sabha elections, some Congress workers are questioning Rahul Gandhi?s style of working. This is being carried out in a planned manner,? Verma said without elaborating on the reasons for these attacks.

?A leader said Rahul should have joined Manmohan Singh?s cabinet. But it would have made little sense as media would have then said that he is undermining the office of the PM. Another leader said Rahul doesn?t have administrative capabilities and later said we have lost elections as Rahul did not speak much,? he said.

?But this is the same person who canvassed throughout the country in 2009 and the party formed a comfortable government,? he said.

Verma also said that after their poor show in elections, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had sent out feelers to him to join the party. Verma, however, vehemently rubbished rumours of joining the SP.

He also said that he has a complaint against ?(Congress president) Sonia Gandhi and Rahul as they give all power to local satraps?.

?Local satraps decide the tickets, decide finances, undertake haphazard campaigns but when the results are poor, the blame is on Rahul Gandhi. This happened in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and other places,? he said calling for a scrutiny of candidates by the party?s top leadership.
