JOIN USIt rained intermittently, accompanied by strong winds, in the semi-arid and Malnad areas of Uttara Kannada district on Saturday.
Fishing boats were anchored to the ports due to the high tides in the Arabian Sea. Cloudy weather prevailed across the district, with drizzling accompanied by winds.
The district recorded a rainfall of 33.2 mm in the 24 hours that ended at 8 am on Saturday. Intermittent rain lashed several parts of Shimoga district on Friday.
Hosanagar, Bhadravathi, Sorab, Sagar, Shimoga, and Thirthahalli. Some parts of Shikaripur received moderate to heavy rain during the day. The Malnad taluks recorded good spell of rain throughout the day.
In the last 24 hours, Thirthahalli recorded the highest rainfall of 22.4 mm, followed by Sorab 16.2 mm, Hosanagar 10 mm, Sagar 8.2 mm, Shikaripur 5.4 mm, Bhadravathi 3.2 mm and Shimoga 2.6 mm. Following the rise in inflow, 9,300 cusecs of water was released from five gates of Linganamakki dam. According to KPCL chief engineer Rajamudi, the inflow of water was increased to 20,000 cusecs. If the catchment area of the dam continues to receive good spell of rain, another 5,000 cusecs of water might be released from seven gates late in the night.
Bellary
Heavy and intermittent rains lashed Bellary district on Saturday evening. It rained intermittently in Bellary, Hospet, Sandur, Hoovinahadagali and Siruguppa. Heavy showers for an hour were reported in Kottur and Kampli.
Heavy rains accompanied by thunder lashed Bagalkot, Mudhol, Bilagi, Rabakavi, Banahatti, Terdal, Jamakhandi, Hungund, Ilkal, Ameengad and Koodalsangama in Bagalkot district. Roads, fields and ponds were filled with water due to the rains.
Udupi district received 51.96 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. Udupi taluk received the highest of 118.5 mm rainfall, Kundapur recorded 10.2 mm rainfall and Karkala received 27.2 mm rainfall.
Udupi taluk received normal to heavy rain coupled with gusty winds. No damages were reported.
Fishermen have been warned against venturing into sea, as the meteorological department has predicted 45 to 55 kilometre speed wind per hour in the coastal stretch.
In the meantime, Mangalore experienced drizzling in the evening.
Kodagu
Rain receded across Kodagu on Saturday. However, the sky remained overcast the whole day. Madikeri, Napoklu and Bhagamandala experienced average rainfall.
The water-level in Harangi reservoir stood at 2,857.81 feet. The inflow of water was 4,603 cusec and 2,000 cusec water was released into the river.
