Educational institutions in the city marked Teachers’ Day on Friday with a host of cultural programmes and events.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) institutions such as Kendriya Vidyalayas at Narimedu and Tirupparankundram, Mahatma Montessori School, Queen Mira International School and KMR International School organised screening of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Teachers’ Day speech for the students at 3 p.m.

As many as 2,200 students at the Kendriya Vidyalaya –Narimedu viewed the speech on the school grounds from five LED screens installed for the purpose. Many students said that it was a unique experience for them to see the PM interact with school students across the country. “His friendly interaction with students was engaging and he has made some thought-provoking points about the need to take up the noble teaching profession,” said Nikita Chauhan, a Plus One student.

The students and teachers of KMR International School took part as teams in various outdoor games, said Principal Sabural Banu Ibrahim.

In the Government Adi Dravidar students’ hostel, students planted saplings. The OAA-MAVMM School of Management distributed mementos to teachers. The students presented a cultural programme to honour the teachers.

A special celebration

Madurai Association of All Special Schools (MASS) celebrated ‘Special Teachers’ Day’ at Anbagam Special School at DRO Colony wherein special educators, physiotherapists and teachers were felicitated. “Special educators go beyond academics and teach children about day-to-day routine activities. The job is extremely satisfying and we love being with children,” said Vetrivel Murugan, secretary of MASS and a special educator.

“The association with 143 members honours those working in institutions for special children every year on Teacher’s Day,” he added.
