INDORE: While school students watched Prime Minister Narendra Modi speech live on television on the Teachers' Day across nation on Friday, 75-odd girl students of a government higher secondary school in Mandsaur district were made to watch the final one-day match of the ongoing India-England cricket series.
The incicent took place at Maharani Laxmi Bai Government Higher Secondary School at Gandhi Chowraha in Mandsaur town where students of up to Class VII had turned up to listen to PM Modi. When contacted, school head master Mahesh Tiwari defended his decision to show students the cricket match instead of the PM's speech."We tried hard to find the channel on which PM's speech was being telecast live but in vain.
Hence, India-England cricket match was shown to students," Tiwari said. Students, however, were dejected at not being able to catch the PM's address to children live.
"Since morning, we were excited about watching PM Modi's speech live, but the school administration told us that owing to technical problems, we will have to be content with watching the cricket match, in which we were not interested at all," Class VIII students Shabana and Vandana said.
