RAJKOT: Stray cattle whose owners have not registered their animals will now be sent to panjrapoles in Panchmahal.
Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) will spend approximately Rs 2,500 per animal for the transportation. On Friday, the Standing Committee approved the proposal to spend Rs 12,500 per ferry of truck to take stray cattle from the city to shelters in Panchmahal.
The committee also approved Rs 13.80 lakh to purchase two new tractors to intensify the drive to impound stray cattle.
"We have urged the cattle owners to register their animals with RMC and co-operate in the process,'' said Nitin Bhardwaj, chairman, Standing Committee.
"All panjrapols near Rajkot are full and have no space for more cattle. Therefore, we have to send the cattle to other shelters in the state, which involves expenditure," he said.
In the month of August alone, the civic teams impounded 1,000 cattle, which is the highest ever in a single month. The drive has been initiated in all 23 wards of the city and the civic body has also started a campaign asking all cattle owners to register their cattle.
"Cattle owners have been time till September 30 to register their animals. If any stray cattle is found on city roads after the deadline passes, they be impounded and will be sent to shelters," Bhardwaj said.
There will be no extension of the deadline.
