From the demure Shantipriya of ‘Om Shanti Om’ to the gutsy Leela of ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela-Ramleela’, Deepika Padukone has had quite a journey. She has carved out a place for herself in the film fraternity as well as the mind of audiences. So, after the recent run of Rs 100-crore grossers, was making the decision to do an offbeat movie like ‘Finding Fanny’ difficult?

The dimpled actress opines, “I had signed ‘Finding Fanny’ much before the 100-crore movies came in. I remember we were shooting for the song “Daaru Desi” from ‘Cocktail’, when Homi (Adajania) narrated to me the script of ‘Finding Fanny’. I had expressed my desire to be a part of this movie then only. Besides, I do also think the Indian audience is ready for movies like these.”

Deepika Padukone was in the Capital to promote her movie. She was accompanied by her co-star from the movie, Arjun Kapoor, the director, Homi Adajania and the producer, Dinesh Vijan.

When asked about the ensemble cast of the movie, the actress said, “Rarely does a movie comes which allows such type of casting. I really enjoyed working with Arjun (Kapoor), Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur and Dimple Kapadia. It was a learning experience.”

Festive offer

About her character, Angie, the 28-year old actress said, “Till now, I haven’t done roles that I could really relate to. Be it Veronica or Leela or Angie, I don’t relate much to my characters. Angie lives in her own world. She doesn’t become too happy or too sad with anything. But I guess that’s an actor’s job. You should be able to mould yourself into a particular character.”

The censor board has decided to edit out the word “Virgin” from one of the dialogues of the movie and this has left the actress confused.

“I really don’t understand the parameters or the rules of the censor board. When a word can be allowed in a trailer, why can’t it be allowed in the movie? The trailer is aired so many times on the Television,” she said.

Deepika joined in to raise awareness about Ovarian Cancer by wearing teal on ‘Wear Teal Day’. She sported teal nails and a pair of teal ankle strap sandals.

‘Finding Fanny’ is slated to release on September 12.
