National karting from today

Mohite’s Racing Academy circuit in Kolhapur will host the third round of the JK Tyre-FMSCI National Rotax Max karting championship 2014. Local lad Krishnaj Mahadik is leading the points table with 71 points after two rounds in the Senior Max category.

The third round will be held from September 6 to 7.

The Mohite Racing Academy driver is followed by Mumbai’s Ameya Bafna (Meco Racing) with 69 points. Chennai’s Vishnu Prasad and Kolhapur’s Dhruv Mohite are tied in third place with 65.

The 2014 karting champions in each category, to be decided after five rounds, will represent India at the 2014 Rotax Grand finals in the US.

The Senior Max category is for drivers 15 years and above, Junior Max for drivers between 13-16 years and Micro Max for participants in the 7-12 years category.

Forty-five drivers will be seen in action, including defending champions Pradyuman Danigond, Mahadik and Bafna, besides last year’s Most Promising driver Maini.
