Chennai students watch PM on TV with awe

Thirteen-year-old Aysha Faiza watches the huge TV screen with stars in her eyes, because Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won her heart with his words.

In hushed tones, she says, “Mr. Modi said there should be no discrimination between girls and boys. I am really happy to hear him say this.”

Faiza and 300-odd students of Everwin Vidhyashram School, Kolathur, were among those CBSE school students who watched the telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address on the occasion of Teachers Day, on Friday. Teachers joined the students in some schools.

“He seems so friendly and approachable,” says S. Kannagi, a Class IX student of Everwin.

Most students felt overwhelmed on the occasion, but there were a few in some schools in the city who could not follow the speech very well, as Mr. Modi spoke entirely in Hindi.

There was also an opinion that sign language interpretation should have been provided for the benefit of hearing-impaired students.
