Khammam, Nalgonda to make gains

Both districts will benefit both in real estate and industrial sector due to the selection of Vijayawada

Hyderabad: Two Telangana districts will benefit both in real estate and industrial sector due to the selection of Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri (VGTM) region as capital of Andhra Pradesh. Experts say Khammam and Nalgonda will benefit as VGTM urban development authority’s revised jurisdiction extends up to Khammam and Nalgonda.

The UDA jurisdiction has increased to 7,060 square km spread over Krishna and Guntur touching the borders of Khammam district on one side and almost touching Nalgonda on other side.

Around 631 villages in both districts have been included taking the total number of villages to 819, municipalities to seven and municipal corporation to two. The UDA was initially to have only 217 villages.

N. Srinivas Reddy a resident of Khammam town said, “It will be a great advantage to the residents of Khamma district as Vijayawada is only 120 kms away. But if the capital buildings come up near Nandigama and Jaggaihpet it will be even closer, almost midway. Several towns in Khammam district are less than an hour’s drive. For instance, distance between Madhira to Vijayawada is only 68 kms.”

Realtor V. Ravindar Reddy, MD of Gouthami Builders, says, “Until recently several layouts in Khammam and Nalgonda districts had no takers. Now with VGTM UDA area declared as capital region enquiries have shot up.”

Interestingly, several villages in Krishna and Guntur districts are not even aware that their villages are included in VGTM. A top official of VGTM engineering department said, “It is true that many villagers don’t know their inclusion into the VGTM UDA area.”
