Insurance Australia Group Limited (IAG) has signed a ten-year partnership agreement with CareerTrackers, a national non-profit organisation which creates internship opportunities for talented Indigenous university students.

IAG is proud to be one of the first organisations to sign-up to the CareerTrackers 10/10 Initiative, after running a successful pilot earlier in the year. The Indigenous internship program forms part of the commitments made in our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in December 2013.

IAG Managing Director and CEO, Mike Wilkins, spoke about the significance of the mutually beneficial partnership with CareerTrackers, which will create a pipeline of talent for IAG and generate career opportunities for talented students.

"This is the start of our reconciliation journey, and we're very proud to be the second organisation to sign up with the CareerTrackers program for the next ten years. It's fantastic to see young people coming into our organisation and being given the opportunity to develop their careers. We look forward to nurturing their talent. Personally I find it very satisfying to be giving young people this opportunity."

CareerTrackers' Founder and CEO, Michael Combs praised IAG for its commitment to empowering young Indigenous people and explained how the partnership sends a strong message to Indigenous students as well as to other organisations that may wish to get involved.

"There are about 1,000 Indigenous students in Australia. Having large companies like IAG form partnerships with us helps 'set a fire' in the Indigenous student community - that 'corporate Australia does believe in us'," Mr Combs said.

"I want to thank IAG for its belief in our student's capabilities, and for the belief in our CareerTrackers program. We hope this partnership helps give other companies the reassurance they're looking for to get involved too," he said.

Through our partnership agreement IAG has committed to providing a minimum of 15 internship placements to Indigenous students each year for the next ten years. Students will get the opportunity to work in various parts of the organisation and receive coaching and mentoring as well as tangible work experience.

IAG has just concluded its second round of CareerTrackers internships with 13 students interning at IAG to date.
