In a strong message sent out to catering contractors, the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd., (KRCL) has slapped a fine of Rs. 1 lakh on a contractor following frequent complaints of poor quality of food. The contractor paid the fine on Wednesday.
A release from the corporation here said the fine was imposed after the services of the contractor were found to be deficient.
While it maintains constant vigil on the quality of food served in trains, it would not hesitate to initiate stern action if specific complaints made about poor quality of food were proved, the corporation reiterated.
Passengers may send SMS to 9004470700 if they had any complaint regarding catering, the release said. Immediate and prompt action would be taken on the complaints received.
While many trains passing through KRCL have their own pantry car, KRCL arranges catering facility on some long-distance trains without a pantry car, as well as in trains operated by it. The contractor on whom the hefty fine was imposed was based in Goa, sources in the corporation said.
