Struggling to break into UP team, Sudeep Tyagi opts for Saurashtra

Last year Tyagi had spoken to Ravindra Jadeja, who told him that Saurashtra were looking for a fast bowler.

Uttar Pradesh fast bowler Sudeep Tyagi will represent Saurashtra in the forthcoming domestic season. The 26-year-old pacer, who represented India in four ODIs and one T20 claiming three wickets said he had approached Saurashtra a few months ago and confirmation came in last the week.

Tyagi’s last game for UP came in 2013 and later he underwent a heel surgery. Finding a place in the UP side is tough especially for fast bowlers. UP already have two India pacers in RP Singh and Praveen Kumar and Tyagi said it was difficult for him to make the Playing XI. Even before UPCA was about to name its probables for the forthcoming season, Tyagi had applied for his NOC.

“UP already have RP bhai and PK bhai, so the third pacer had to be an all-rounder. So finding a place in the UP team is never easy. I didn’t want to sit at home the entire season waiting for a chance to play. One day I decided that I will look for other options. UP is not the place for strugglers. When you need support, you will not get it,” Tyagi told The Indian Express.

Last year Tyagi had spoken to India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who told him that Saurashtra were looking for a decent fast bowler.

“I spoke to Ravindra Jadeja and few months ago I spoke to Niranjan Shah (Saurashtra’s secretary). He said he will get back after discussing with his committee. Last week I underwent a fitness Test in Rajkot and they were fine having me on board,” Tyagi added.

Festive offer

The Ghaziabad boy, had caught everyone’s attention after finishing as highest wicket taker in Ranji Trophy with 41 wickets in 2007. Tyagi explained that if Saurashtra hadn’t worked out, he would’ve tried for Hyderabad too.

No local cricket

Tyagi moved to Hyderabad few months ago where he played in the local league. He claims that Hyderabad too had shown interest in him, but he picked the first offer which came his way.”My wife is from Hyderabad and she works there. So we decided to move there. In UP there is no local cricket, the next stop had to be Delhi but there were no three-day games. Hyderabad plays lots of three-day games and I thought it was the best place to re-start my career,” he added.
