NEW DELHI: A district award and a state award already in the bag, the National Award was naturally the next step. Ravinder Kumar Sharma, who has been with Shaheed Captain Sanjeev Dahiya Government Co-Ed Sarvodaya School in Sector 9, Rohini, for over three decades and is now principal is one of the four teachers from Delhi to win the National Award?two each for primary and secondary education.
They will receive the awards on September 5.
Sharma, originally a biology teacher, believes he has been awarded for slapping the Sarvodaya school into shape. "I first imposed discipline when I took over in 2008," he says. "Everything in my school is functional. We make extensive use of technology to teach and have always encouraged sports and organized sponsors for our students."
Laxmi Kumari Singh (61), who teaches economics at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya No.1 at Shakti Nagar, tends to make a success of any project she takes up. Currently in charge of the implementation of Ladli scheme, she has been in charge of population education, resource teacher for YUVA programme and in-charge of kids with special needs. Individually, she participates in competitions for teachers and routinely takes home prizes for making collages. "I have been handed many charges over the years," she says, "Even as TGT science ? before I became a lecturer ? I used to organize science fairs and hold debates."
Subhash Chandra from EDMC Primary School, Khera GT Road, is a science buff. "In primary school, we teach all subjects but my interest is in science," says the 50 year-old. , "That what I make most of the teaching aids for." His science models "have been coming first for 20 years," he says adding that he's made ones on pollution, Yamuna and the history of the wheel.
The fourth winner is Archana, principal of North Corporation Primary School, Sukhdev Kunj, Keshav Puram.
There are other winners from Delhi of course, nominated by the Central Board of Secondary Education, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations among others. There are subject-specific winners as well.
