Teen cited for motor vehicle homicide in fatal 2013 Hopkinton crash

A teenage girl has been cited for motor vehicle homicide and speeding in an accident nearly a year ago that killed a 13-year-old boy, officials said.

On Sept. 18, 2013, Shayne Desroches of Hopkinton was struck and killed while riding his bike on Hayden Rowe Street in that town. The girl driving the car was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

In the days after the accident, friends and neighbors expressed grief and anger in reaction to Desroches’s death.

“I’m more angry than sad,” said a neighbor at the time. “People drive way too fast here. I just wish they would slow down.”

Law enforcement officials said at the time of the crash that they would conduct an investigation, but no action was taken until now. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement today that because the case involved minors, no further information would be released.
