Arriving late, rains wash humidity away

Met dept predicts more rains in days to come
Arriving late, rains wash humidity away
Lucknow: Monsoon revived in the city after almost a month’s gap. Light to moderate rainfall occurred in many parts on Thursday. Mercury levels came down and moist winds made the weather pleasant. The weatherman said partly cloudy sky with intermittent rainfall will continue for the next 4-5 days.
Maximum and minimum temperatures were 33 degrees Celsius and 23.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Humidity levels were high 63% to 92%. Strong winds prevented the weather from turning sultry. On Friday, maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 32 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively. Rain and thundershowers would occur at some places.
State Met director said monsoon is reviving in the state and more rains are expected not only in the city but also in other parts of the state in coming days. Rainfall may be heavy at isolated place in west UP, he added.
Rains on Thursday brought relief but also caused a lot of inconvenience due to water-logging and power cuts in the city. Streets in low lying areas like Qaiserbagh, Aminabad and Mawaiiya were inundated after two hours of shower. Choked drains also led to water logging in posh localities including Gomtingar, Indiranagar and Eldeco 2.
Water logging in pot-holed roads made driving risky for two-wheelers and led to traffic snarls at many places. Congestion increased near Patrakarpuram, Vivek Khand,Vinarm Khand, Faizabad road, Ring Road and Sitapur road due to rains.
Sharing the ordeal of being stuck in a traffic jam, a manager in a private firm Sunil Singh said “rains brought the traffic to a standstill for at least 50 minutes near Mawaiiya, where vehicles kept honking continuously in a bid to get space and get away from the snarl.”

A similar story was narrated by aspiring chartered accountant Rumi Dodra: “I couldn't reach coaching class on time, as I was stuck in water-filled potholes for twice near Barron road.” Resident of Eldeco 2 Kaushalya Chauhan said “even light rains create a mess in my locality as choked drains start overflowing.”
Widespread rains were reported on Thursday. Karwi in Bundelkhand recorded 90mm rains, highest in the state followed by Bara with 70mm and Jalaun 60mm.
