Part of the mining operation at PotashCorp's Cory mine have been shut down after a fire at one of the buildings.

Engineers are looking at the building to see if it's structurally sound.

The Saskatoon Fire Department was called to the mine west of Saskatoon just before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

They joined PotashCorp firefighters in battling a blaze on the roof of a building where potash is processed and dried above ground. An aerial ladder unit was used to extinguish flames on the roof and the fire was out within 40 minutes.

There’s no word on the cause of fire or a damage estimate, but the area that processes industrial-use potash is closed for the time being.
