>Ecologist Madhav Gadgil , author of the Gadgil committee report on the conservation of the Western Ghats, will deliver a public lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K), at 3 p.m. on September 16.
Prof. Gadgil’s talk, titled ‘Moving from a predatory to a mutualistic economy,’ will be from the academic and research perspective. The lecture in the IIM-K auditorium is open to all, a press release here on Wednesday said.
The issue of development in the Western Ghats spanning Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala hit the headlines again recently with the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests making its stand clear on the issue to the National Green Tribunal.
The Ministry reportedly favoured the K. Kasturirangan committee’s recommendations over the Gadgil committee report. This decision has critical ramifications for businesses, governments, and communities across the Western Ghats region.
