AIADMK nominee Rajkumar files papers

City on the path to development, he says

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam nominee P. Rajkumar on Wednesday filed nomination for contesting the Coimbatore Mayoral election. His wife R. Thamayanthi filed nomination as the stand-by candidate.

He submitted his papers before the Returning Officer and Commissioner S. Ganesh in the presence of Deputy Commissioner P. Gandhimathi and other officials. Member of Parliament, Coimbatore, P. Nagarajan, Members of Legislative Assembly R. Doraisamy, T. Malaravan, and R. Chinnasamy, and Mr. Rajkumar’s proposer R.K. Raja were also present.

Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination, Mr. Rajkumar said that if elected he would work to ensure that the development package the Chief Minister had announced for the city would be implemented in a fair and transparent manner at the earliest.

The city was on the path to development, thanks to the schemes the Chief Minister had announced. There was the move to reduce traffic congestion by shifting out the bus stand to build an integrated bus stand and the multi-level car parking schemes.

On the water supply front, he said that the city would soon have 24x7 drinking water supply scheme and get an additional water supply source as the preliminary work for the Pilloor Three scheme had begun.

Prior to filing his nomination, Mr. Rajkumar resigned as the councillor of Ward 46 on Tuesday.

As he entered the Coimbatore Corporation’s main office around 11 a.m., AIADMK councillors led by Deputy Mayor Leelavathi Unni danced to the beating of drums. The councillors said Mr. Rajkumar, was certain to win the election.

In his nomination, he had declared that his total moveable assets were valued at Rs. 79.93 lakh and immoveable assets at Rs. 90 lakh. He had also declared that he had not been convicted for offences that involved imprisonment of over two years.
