National award for Puducherry teachers

Two teachers from Puducherry will receive the best teacher award for the year 2013 from President Pranab Mukherjee at the Teachers’ Day celebrations scheduled for September 5 in New Delhi. Seventeen other teachers have been chosen by the Puducherry government for the State awards this year.

S. Ganapathy of Arutchelvi Ayee Ammal Govt. Girls Middle School, Mutharayarpalayam, and S. Velmourougane, Principal of Ilango Adigal Govt. Higher Secondary School, Muthirapalayam, have been chosen for the national awards and will receive a sum of Rs.25,000, certificate and silver plaque.

Announcing the awards , Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said that the Puducherry government also presents various awards to teachers in recognition of their achievements.

The State/regional awardees would be given a sum of Rs.10,000 and a certificate at the Teachers’ Day celebrations in Puducherry. Two teachers who received the national award in 2012 would be honoured on the occasion. “All retired teachers of government and government-aided private schools will also be honoured . This year, 193 teachers from the four regions of Puducherry will be honoured,” Mr. Rangasamy said.

Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Awards will be presented to R. Arumugam, Headmaster, Government Primary School, Andiarpalayam; R. Selvi, Headmistress, Government Primary School, Sedanatham in the primary level; and A. Shahila Waheed, Vice-Principal, Thiruvalluvar Government Girls Higher Secondary School; and P. Ragottame, Vice-Principal, Vallalar Government Higher Secondary School, Lawspet in the secondary level.

Chief Minister’s Special Awards

Language teacher - V. Poonguzhaly, trained graduate teacher (Tamil), Subramania Bharathiar Government Higher Secondary School. Women teachers - Galidevara Ratna Prabha, lecturer in Hindi, STPP Government Junior College, Yanam; N. Vijayalakshmi, lecturer in physical education, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Thirunallar; S. Kasturi, trained graduate teacher (Tamil), Government High School, Kovilpathu; and M. Kanchanavally, Headmistress (Primary), Government Lower Primary School.

Education Minister’s Regional Awards:

Puducherry - M. Achuthan, Headmaster Grade II, Datchanamoorthy Government High School, Vambakeerapalayam; M. Vetrivel, trained graduate teacher (Tamil), Bharathi Government Higher Secondary School, Bahour; D. Amalor, trained graduate teacher, Thamizh Thendral Thiru Vi.Ka. Government High School, Puducherry; and P. Moorthi, Headmaster Grade-II, Government Boys Middle School, Delarshpet.

Karaikal - P. Soundirarasu, trained graduate teacher (Tamil), Govindasamy Pillai Government High School; M. Rajeswary, lecturer in botany, Thanthai Periyar Government Higher Secondary School.

Mahe - Rajeev.K.K, lecturer, C.E. Bharathan Government Higher Secondary School.

Yanam - Voggu Edukondala Venkata Ramana Murthy, trained graduate teacher, Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Government High School, Farampeta.
