Proposal to include Jhunjhunu in NCR sent to govt
JAIPUR: The expansion of the National Capital Region (NCR) may see inclusion of yet another district from Rajasthan. The state town planning department has sent a proposal to the state government to consider Jhunjhunu district in the NCR region.
The district, situated nearly 210 km from New Delhi, is rich in economic activities such as mining and tourism.
As it is in proximity to the national capital, the inclusion will bring the area under new focus in terms of development of traffic linkages, health and drainage facilities.
"Considering Khetri as centre of economic activity, the proposal to add Jhunjhunu in NCR region has been sent to the state government. After getting the approval, the proposal will be sent to National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB)," said a senior official. The proposal was forwarded after the local MP requested the state government in this regard.
If the proposal is accepted, Jhunjhunu will be the third district from Rajasthan to become a part of NCR. After Alwar, Bharatpur became part of the NCR in July 2013.
In 2011, Jhunjhunu had a population of 2,137,045. The district can reap rich dividends as its average literacy rate in 2011 were 74.13 compared to 73.04 of 2001. Gender wise, male and female literacy were 86.90 and 60.95 respectively.
If it becomes part of NCR, the district will get more investments in future and generate more employment. "More number of industries are expected to come up in these areas and eventually it may become an industrial hub just like Neemrana and Bhiwadi. Not just government bodies, even private players may actively invest in this region," said a senior official.

"Haryana has certainly benefited from this status. Gurgaon, Manesar and other cities have done extremely well. Rajasthan too will utilize this opportunity and develop its areas as metropolises," said the official.
Unlike other NCR, the district has heritage havelis and forts too which can generate more revenue and create employment . The places like Mandawa and Alsisar are on the world map for preserving heritage and promoting tourism.
On the contrary, sources said, the ramifications will be felt beyond the confines, and will change the contours of the real estate market in NCR.
