NASHIK: Mayor Yatin Wagh on Wednesday asked the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for drainage lines in the Ambad and Satpur industrial estates as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The Union government provides 7% of the total funds under the JNNURM for drainage projects.
The decision to raise the rest of the funds has to be taken jointly by the MIDC and the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC). This was decided at a meeting with representatives of the industry called by Wagh and attended by officiating municipal commissioner Sonali Ponkshe-Vayangankar and district collector Vilas Patil.
There have been no drainage lines in the Ambad and Satpur industrial estates of the MIDC located in the civic limits. Organisations such as Nashik Industries and Manufacturers' Association (NIMA), Ambad Industries & Manufacturers' Association (AIMA) and Nashik District Industries & Exporters' Association (NDIEA) have been demanding construction of drainage lines in the Ambad and Satpur industrial estates.
Wagh asked the MIDC officials to prepare the DPR for the drainage lines project. He said, "Seventy per cent of total project for drainage lines are possible by the central government under the JNNURM. We will jointly decide about the rest of 30 per cent funds after preparing the DPR."
MIDC executive engineer P R Bhandopiya said he would pursue the issue with the head office for preparing the DPR.
NIMA president Ravi Verma urged the mayor to have certain provisions in the municipal budget for the industry.
U P Pawar, the superintending engineer (water supply and sewage management) of NMC, said, "We will get 70 per cent funds of the total project cost from the Union government if we prepare the DPR. Then municipal commissioner Sanjay Khandare had written a letter to the MIDC on December 21 2012 to prepare the DPR, but the MIDC did not. In fact, the MIDC supply water to the industries and hence, it must provide drainage treatment facility too."
