Ahead of the maiden visit of BJP national president Amit Shah to Kolkata on September 6 and 7, the state party unit has sent an overall report of the state as sought by the national leadership to plan a roadmap for the 2015 municipal elections and the 2016 Assembly polls.
“We have sent a detailed report as per their requirement. It comprises the collapsing health and education system. We have mentioned how Trinamool Congress leaders had been involved in corrupt practices in college admissions. Despite tall claims, the state was caught unawares in the Encephalitis breakout that claimed nearly 200 lives in the state,” said state BJP president Rahul Sinha.
Shah, who would arrive here on Saturday evening, is scheduled to visit Belur Math on Sunday morning, and then pay homage at the statue of SP Mookerjee on Red Road. After attending the meet, he is scheduled to address a rally at Bowbazar here, campaigning for Ritesh Tewari, the BJP candidate for Chowringhee by-election.
Party sources said Shah would make “under-development of North Bengal” and illegal immigration as main agenda for the 2016 Assembly elections and stress on strengthening the cells dedicated to women, youth, minority and film artists.’
The two-day state committee meeting beginning September 6 would be attended by party general secretary (organisation) Ramlal Gupta, national spokesperson and Bengal observer Siddarth Nath Singh and Kiren Rijiju, MoS, home affairs. Union law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad who had been slated to attend the meeting, would not be able to come, his office told The Indian Express.
The report sent to Shah for the Assembly election consists corruption in 100 days’ work, law and order breakdown due to TMC goons, victimisation of businessmen due to extortion in Durgapur-Asansol-Birbhum region, and the pathetic state of farmers who do not get fair prices on their produce in the report prepared by state general secretaries and vice-presidents of the party, with inputs from district leaders, Sinha said.
The report also included sections on how TMC had used its machinery to win a majority in several Lok Sabha seats in the last elections through rigging and sought the Centre’s intervention for the next election. “We have asked for election to be conducted under the supervision of paramilitary force. Leaders at the Centre would write to the Election Commissioner regarding that,” Sinha said.
BJP Asansol president Nirmal Karmakar said he had given his inputs regarding the partial attitude of police in Asansol. BJP Birbhum president, Dood Kumar Mondal said he had given a report on minority members being targeted in Birbhum by TMC leaders. Party state general secretary Ashim Sarkar said the Saradha scam had received a special mention in the report.
