More than 900 insurgents killed in North Waziristan, Pakitsan

ISLAMABAD, Sept 3 (KUNA) -- At least 910 armed rebels have been killed and around 82 Pakistani Army soldiers have also died in the ongoing military operation "Zarb-i-Azab" against foreign and local militants in North Waziristan, the military said on Wednesday.
The Pakistani Army reported "clearing" two key roads across the region and seizing the major towns of Miranshah, Mirali, Datta Khel, Boya and Degan, which were strongholds for the insurgents.
The regular troops have taken over more than 27 factories for manufacturing arms and ammunition, including rockets.
"A huge cache of arms and ammunition, communication equipment, and other logistical facilities, used by the terrorists, has been destroyed uprooting their ability to attack as a coherent force," the army statement said.
It confirmed that 82 soldiers "embraced martyrdom and 269 got injured across the country while fighting against terrorism since start of the operation." The Pakistani military launched the wide-scale military operation on June 15, in retaliation for a militant attack on the southern Karachi international airport. The assault came after failure of peace talks between the government and the opposition movement, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Nearly a million people have fled North Waziristan and have taken shelter at camps for the displaced since flare-up of the fighting. (end) sbk.rk
