Cops rope in eunuchs to create traffic awareness
SURAT: The traffic police started a traffic rule awareness drive in the city on Tuesday with the help of eunuchs. The drive, which was launched at six locations in the city, had the support of the Lioness Club of Surat Silk City.
Six eunuchs in yellow saris with mikes in their hands addressed commuters at the traffic junctions to educate them on why it is necessary to follow traffic rules.

Within an hour of the campaign being launched at Rangila Park, Chaupati, Athwa Gate, Majura Gate, Udhna crossroad and railway station, its pictures went viral on social media sites. A few people said a similar campaign had taken place in Mumbai sometime ago.
"We are happy that we were given this responsibility of creating awareness about traffic rules. We will try our best," said Rinku Ful Kunwar, a eunuch.
"We have involved eunuchs in the campaign as they too are a part of our society. We wanted them to join hands with all of us for a better city. Eunuchs have the ability to attract attention immediately and create an impact. Our campaign will continue," Lioness Club president Sangita Rathi said.
"The drive was very successful and we believe that it will create a lot of awareness among the citizens," said Ranju Duggal, past president of the club.
"It is good that citizens are joining hands with police. Only awareness among citizens can help solve the problem," said Giriraj Malani, a trader.
"We could reach many people on the first day of our campaign. If this helps, the campaign may be continued further," said G M Patel, assistant commissioner of police, traffic.
