Residents of Koila have sought an increase in police vigilance to prevent the reported nuisance by a group of persons in their town.

A group of residents led by Puttur Taluk Panchayat President Pulastya Rai placed this demand before the Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police S.D. Sharanappa on Monday.

Laxminarayana, a member of Koila Gram Panchayat said that the police had arrested a person a few days back, who was in a group that allegedly tried to harass a 15-year-old girl. The person was now out on bail.

Mr. Laxminarayana said they are apprehensive of any harm to the girl. He wanted police to catch the other two allegedly involved in the case.

Krishnaveni, the president of neighbouring Ramakunja Gram Panchayat, said the road on which the girl was harassed was a secluded place. Villagers fear more such cases of harassment of girls passing by the road.

Mr. Sharanappa said the girl had not reported of any previous case of harassment by the three member group.
