STOCKHOLM, SWEWDEN--(Marketwired - Sept. 3, 2014) - SciBase, a leader in skin cancer detection technology with its unique point-of-care device Nevisense, today announced that it has entered into an exclusive agreement with Globe Skincare Ltd to distribute Nevisense in Great Britain. UK- based Globe Skincare is a leading distributor of skin care and analysis products to the dermatological community across Great Britain.

Nevisense is an important new tool for the detection of malignant melanoma, the most fatal form of skin cancer. The ability of Nevisense to accurately detect melanoma has been proven in the world's largest prospective study of its kind, published earlier this year in the British Journal of Dermatology. Nevisense has already attracted widespread interest as the first non-visual melanoma detection system, using Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to objectively analyse lesions with suspicion of melanoma and will now also be introduced to the UK market in conjunction with World Congress on Cancers of the Skin (WCCS) conference held in Edinburgh on September 3-6.

"With the appointment of Globe Skincare as our distributor in Great Britain we are laying the foundation for our further expansion into Europe. We are very excited to bring Globe Skincare on board, their drive and commitment to the dermatological community make them the ideal partner for us" says Simon Grant, CEO of SciBase.

"Nevisense is an excellent tool for early detection of malignant melanoma", says Lucien Bartram, CEO of Globe Skincare. "We are truly excited to have the opportunity to bring this first class tool to the UK market. We see tremendous potential for Nevisense and we are looking forward to working closely with Scibase."

About Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world, accounting for nearly half of all cancers. Malignant melanoma is the most fatal form of skin cancer causing the majority (75%) of deaths related to skin cancer. Around 13,300 cases of malignant melanoma were diagnosed in 2011 in the UK. Malignant melanoma incidence rates in the UK have increased more than fivefold since the mid 1970s, increasing more rapidly than any of the current ten most common cancers in males and females.

About SciBase and Nevisense

SciBase is a Swedish medical technology company founded in 1998 that has developed Nevisense, a point-of-care device for the accurate detection of malignant melanoma. Nevisense has emerged from more than 20 years of academic research at both Karolinska Institutet Stockholm and SciBase. The device is designed to be used when a clinician chooses to obtain additional information when evaluating lesions with a suspicion of melanoma. Nevisense is based on a technology called Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), which uses the varying electrical properties of human tissue to categorize cellular structures and thereby detect malignancies. The CE-marked system consists of an electrode on a hand-held probe connected to a small portable device performing the analysis and displaying the result.

A video describing the Nevisense method is available on: www.scibase.se/en/the-nevisense-product and further information is also available on www.scibase.se.
