PUCM flays police assault in Islamabad

JHANG/MIRPUR (AJK)
Under the PTI district leadership, a protest rally was taken out here against the police torture, shelling and firing on the participants of Islamabad sit-ins.
The rally started from the party’s district secretariat situated in Kachahry Chowk and after passing through Yousaf Shah Road and Sargodha Road culminated at Ayoub Chowk.
Led by Dr Abul Hassan Insari, the rally was attended by hundreds of people. They were waving party flags and raising slogans against the government. Addressing the participants, Dr Abul Hassan Insari said that 18-day peaceful protest sit-ins had shown that the PML-M mandate was bogus. He further announced that in Jhang, the protest would remain continue till the resignation of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. He said that they would make sacrifices to establish new Pakistan. Later, the rally participants dispersed peacefully. Expressing solidarity with the media, the Pakistan United Christian Movement strongly condemned the brutal attacks on reporters of different media channels covering the Azadi and Inqalab marches in Islamabad.
PUCM Chairman A David said, “The acts of police are not acceptable at all. These are actually attacks on the freedom of expression and the fundamental rights granted by the Constitution.”
The media, he observed, had played a vital role in promoting and upholding the rights of ordinary people and have empowered them to raise voice for their political and socio-economic rights. Using force to stop the journalists to perform their duties is unethical, illegal and extra-constitutional, David said.
He demanded immediate inquiry into these brutal acts and that all those involved should be taken to task.
