Parts of Sharjah and Al Dhaid were the latest areas to experience rainfall on Tuesday, in a week where flashflood warnings have been issued for parts of the country after summer showers caused a bridge to collapse in Ras Al Khaimah.

The UAE’s National Center of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), has confirmed more rainfall is predicted for the eastern parts of the country over the next 48 hours, with the mercury levels rising and humidity hovering around 97 per cent.

The NCMS has also confirmed that it is facilitating cloud seeding in the eastern region, with Masafi experiencing as much as 41mm of rainfall over the last few days.

A spokesperson with the NCMS further said: “There is a growing accumulation of convective clouds in the eastern parts of the UAE, driven by a low pressure system in the surface and upper layers coming from the Indian Ocean that has accelerated wind speeds over the mountains and given rise to the formation of this weather system.

“The increasing humidity levels is fuelling this cloud formation with the increased moisture in the air and bringing rainfall in parts of the country.

“However, don’t think that the wet weather will blow in cooler climes.”

The mercury continues to average 46 degrees Celsius, while the humidity levels are ranging from 95-97 per cent.

Meanwhile, the accelerated wind speed may also give rise to scattered duststorms over parts of the country, along with early morning mist formation in the interiors of the UAE, centred around western Abu Dhabi and parts of Liwa.

The good news amidst these hot and hazy conditions is calm seas, with no marine warning issued by the NCMS for the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

Over the weekend, ‘Emarat Al Youm’ newspaper reported a bridge collapsed in Ras Al Khaimah and several residents reported water seeping into their homes as heavy rain lashed the emirate on Friday and Saturday.

In the last few days, Hatta, Fujairah, Masafi and parts of Sharjah have all experienced heavy rainfall.
