Gowda relocates due to family pressure?

Last Updated 02 September 2014, 18:54 IST

Former prime minister and Hassan Lok Sabha member H D Deve Gowda is still waiting for the State government to allot him a house in Hassan town.

The Public Works Department has been entrusted with the responsibility of finding a suitable house for him in his home district.

Official sources said Gowda, being an MP, was entitled to a government residential quarters. So far, Gowda has not acquired a house in Hassan town. He had never lived in Hassan as an MP though he frequented the district during elections.

In all probability, a PWD house located next to the Superintendent of Police office in Hassan town may be allotted to him, it is said. A present, he is staying in his wife Channamma’s younger brother Kale Gowda’s house since he shifted to Hassan on August 23.

Gowda had announced that henceforth he would camp in Hassan at least four days a week to mingle with the people, and the rest of the days he would tour the State to strengthen the party. But he has no yet vacated his residence in Padmanabha Nagar in Bangalore. Though he has an office in Hassan, he has hardly visited it.

Sources close to him said it was difficult for Gowda to relocate to Hassan as he had always lived in Bangalore.

In Bangalore, he and his wife are staying in the house of his daughters in Padmanabha Nagar. If sources are to be believed, all is not well in the Gowda clan, which is forcing him to assert himself as the MP of Hassan and stay put in his home district.

Youngsters in the family are trying to enter electoral politics and hence, they want Gowda and even his son H D Revanna to allow them to take over the reins of the party in the district. Revanna, an MLA from Holenarasipur in Hassan, resides in his constituency. His son Prajwal Gowda and H D Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil have already entered politics, but have not faced electoral challenges.
