LUDHIANA: Sahnewal police have booked a man, who is husband of a panchayat member, for allegedly raping a young woman of the village.
Another woman has also been booked for criminal conspiracy in the case. Both the accused are at large.
Police sources said a case has been registered following a complaint by the rape survivor at Sahnewal police station. The girl who is in her early twenties alleged in her complaint that she was raped by Paramajeet Singh Pamma, who is husband of a member Panchayat of her village, in conspiracy with a woman named Gurmeet Kaur.

She claimed that Gurmeet Kaur, who lives in her neighborhood and is known to her, had taken her along to her house on some pretext where Paramjeet Singh Pamma was also present. The woman served her tea laced with some sedative and after having tea she went unconscious. When she gained consciousness, she found herself at some unknown place where Pamma was raping her.
She raised an alarm and resisted his attempts with all her strength. Baffled by this, the accused locked her in a room. But she somehow managed to escape from the room and went back to her place and narrated the story to her family members. It was then that they decided to file a complaint with the police.
Inspector Anil Bhanot, station house officer of Sahnewal police station, said they have registered a case under Sections 376 (rape), 506 (threatening for life),120 B (criminal conspiracy) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal code.
Bhanot said they are carrying out raids to nab the accused.
