Troublemakers vandalize CPM office in Peth area
PUNE: Unidentified persons ransacked the Communist Party of India (Marxist) office in Narayan Peth on Tuesday around 2.30pm.
Rajendra Sawant, senior inspector of the Vishrambaug police station, said, "Six unidentified men barged into the CPI (M) office and broke the glass-topped table. They threatened four to five office bearers with dire consequences. They spilled oil in the office and fled.
No one was injured."
Office bearer Kiran Pyarelal Bhandari (34) of Lohegaon, in his complaint, has said the CPM office was attacked by men claiming to ?avenge the killing of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader who was hacked to death in Kannur, north Kerala on Monday'.
On Bhandari's complaint, a case of rioting was registered against unidentified persons under sections of the Indian Penal Code. "We are conducting investigations to identify of the attackers," he added.
The CPI (M), in a statement issued through its state secretary Ashok Dhawale, said the suspects had caused extensive damage to the furniture and other office stationery. They have destroyed the identity cards of unorganized labourers by pouring some chemical on them, he added.
Dhawale said, "This was for the second time that the CPI (M) office was attacked. The state
is not taking the issue seriously. This is evident from the fact that the murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar could not be solved till date."

He said the CPM was strong enough to face such elements and sought the arrest of the trouble makers. The CPM and Left Democratic Front will soon hold a statewide agitation to protest against such attacks, he added.
Meanwhile, RSS Pune unit secretary Kailas Sontakke, in a statement, has denied the sanghatana's involvement in the attack. He said it was an attempt to defame the RSS and mislead the public. He
sought proper investigations into the attack.
