Fuji colors are great when photographing portraits and people. For everything else, it's awful.

I just want to exercise my right to complain about this camera. There, you have it.

Nice, these pictures confirm that the X-30 is way too overpriced. It will be 50% discount in 3 months.

Look - for instance - at picture nr. 8 of the Bèta-samples: again this horrible smearing effect, as worse as in the X20. Don't you folks really see that? What does Fuji expect from us: that we take pictures or make aquarelles?

I hope Fujifilm feels they have proved to their consumers and to themselves they could do a heck of a corrected lens, a heck of a sensor,... a heck of a very good camera that can deliver a heck of good image quality from this stupid little sensor (not stupid in a phone, though) and launch its successor with 1" sensors. Please, Fujifilm, satisfy yourself with this 2/3" once for all, will you? Or, just get into the phone industry!

Very honest performance from such a small sensor.
For those looking for a high quality all-in-one camera with excellent ergonomics, it may fit the bill. However, it's just that: a small-sensored compact camera. Don't expect miracles.

Really nice for a 2/3" sensor and 4x zoom. High ISO is quite acceptable given the parameters, this of course is aided by the bright aperture. Macro doesn't seem to fair well at wide aperture however, with purple chroma - but I guess this is once again an acceptable compromise and will never quite compare with a purpose-made macro lens.
I think, if it had that 1 inch sensor and was more compact, then this would definitely be a compact for me. Oh... and just move the "X-30" signature and allow a decently sized flash in its place!! Cmon, those fresnel lenses look menacing!

These are actually surprisingly good. High ISO is still a mess, and I wouldn't blow any of them up past about 8X12, but if you're happy with JPEGs and you just want to carry one camera around, this isn't a bad option. Still think it needs to come down in price dramatically though.

I own the X20 and I really love it, it just feels good & makes me want to use it. So I, like many, was looking forward to a 1 inch sensor married to that design and the X30 seemed disappointing. But now I don't think so. Fuji kept the price the same and added a bundle of new features, the EVF is obvious but it is the smaller ones that may matter, the control ring coupled with a choice of focus peaking colors really makes manual focusing much better, the simple change of being able to toggle directly between "Macro" & "Super Macro", the RAW view mode to get the best out of the sensor, etc. I shoot RAW but the JPEGs are obviously better on the X30. I will wait though to upgrade: until I can handle the camera to see if the placement of the EVF(now more centered) suits me and for a competent review. I am sure Fuji let DPReview publish photos from a "beta" camera to spur initial sales, but they seem pretty good and Fuji certainly nailed a lot of the small details except for an ND filter.

These look just as good as the Nikon D810 when I look at them at 400 pixels wide.

The images are soft, and noisy, and lacking dynamic range ... and still they are pretty good for such a tiny sensor.

the few high ISO shots are terrible. Even at ISO800, grain in out of focus region is obvious.

To all the guys that compare the X30 with the RX100 III:

Both cams are on a very high level and both have advantages and disadvantages.

RX 100 III: slightly better image quality, presumably at higher iso, smaller body, less zoom-range, awkwardly VF, slippery body, hardly usable with both hands, better to use with one hand (it is your personal choice wether this is an advantage or an disadvantage)

X30: biger, better zoom-range, more practically VF, can used with both hands (like you use a DSLR - what is in my personal opinion a clear advantage - but this can be completely different for others), external flash via hot shoe

So it is a mather of taste which cam is better for you.

For me, the Fuji is better because of the excellent zoom (that I enjoy on my X10), it is realy great to work with - very similar to my Nikon equipment, I also esteem the grip of the body.

Not too shabby. Certainly not so much of the "compact" look to them.

How does lightroom handle X-trans RAW these days?

Yup, just as much of a downer as I thought, actually worse than I thought.

Photo samples are supposed to demonstrate the quality and capability of a camera or lens, not to show off a photographers goofy artistic talents. Why do so few understand that? Showing one small subject surrounded by blurriness is fine, but that only demonstrates a very tiny part of what photographers need.

What's put me of X-trans sensor cameras in the past has been the green problem in areas such as grass, clearly visible in some sample pics. The grass in these pics looks fine. Wonder if Fuji has found a workaround.

Anyway, I like these pics. Good balanced colour.

just to echo cgarrard, every camera has setting adjustments for a reason. The fact that DPReview uses standard out of the camera settings for preview pics is perfectly logical. For any camera, if you do not like what you see, then go to settings for "your" preferences. There is no "perfect" camera , it's all about tradeoffs, etc. Hard to beat Fuji colors. Fuji stands behind its base with updates for even "old' cameras. No i do not have and Fuji cameras, just impressed with Fuji's offerings.

Looks ok, but, why get this over an RX100?

It's pretty much about what I expected, a bit better than the 1/1.7" cameras (ie G16 and P7800) but not as good as the RX100 III. I think the color fidelity is absolutely superb though.

Remember, these are all standard settings. Standard.. adjusting NR and such can be done to greatly change the output. Just like all tests on DPR they use (fairly) standard settings in the camera for samples.

People should you common and clear sense when commenting. The camera seems to be capable of outputting excellent tones and superb colors! No doubt about it

Pretty disappointing shots compared to, say, those of the RX100 MkIII.
