VIJAYAWADA: In move to upgrade Gannavaram airport, the Union civil aviation ministry has appointed a senior official as its director. The new director M Rajakishore, a joint general manager cadre official, assumed charge here on Tuesday.
Rajakishore was working at Begumpet airport before being shifted to Gannavaram. He replaced the BG Patil, deputy general manager cadre officer, who was officiating as in-charge director of the airport.

According to sources, the union civil aviation minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju is seriously contemplating providing all facilities at Gannavaram airport to suit the capital city requirements.
The posting of senior official was also indicative of union government’s seriousness in putting the developmental projects related to the airport on fast track.
The immediate task of the union civil aviation ministry is to expand the existing run way in Gannavaram airport from 7,500 ft to 10,500 ft.
Meanwhile, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Nani met the airport director Rajakishore after the latter taking over the charge. MP suggested the director to bring all the important pending issues relating to the airport to his notice so that he could pursue them in Delhi.
