PAS prepared to meet Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: The arrest of 157 Penang Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS) members is making PAS worried as to whether the police will also take action against the party's volunteer corp, Unit Amal.
PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub said the party was prepared to meet Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamid if he wanted an explanation on Unit Amal's activities and its 6,000 registered personnel which comprised members below the age of 40.
Speaking to reporters at the PAS headquarters, he said that Unit Amal need not be registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) because it falls under the constitution of the party, that is, Article 54(9)(d) – allowing the party's Youth wing to form a committee or lajnah (bureau), as needed.
Since the party adheres to its constitution, Salahuddin hopes the authorities will not take action against its members as they did to PPS members.
