With cleaning of Ganga as one of the major poll promises prior to general elections, the government seems to be back on the dock over the issue.

Water activist Rajendra Singh said that no steps have been evident even after the 100 days of new government formation. He said that if the government is serious about implementing the plan, it must implement the rules at the earnest. There is a need for a Conservation and Management Act. He appreciated the move by the PM in establishing a separate ministry for the same but sought an NGPRA meeting.

Speaking during the fourth session of Panchayat Aaj Tak, BJP leader Manoj Tiwari said that when the announcement was made from the ramparts of Red Fort, he visualised a new India and that he expects that the prime minister would associate people with the cause. He said Ganga should not be seen merely from religious perspective and it is only when Hindus and Muslims unite for the cause will the mission be accomplished.
