Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Vermont Independent who self-describes as a Socialist, says what’s needed in America is a fairer economic plan, one that provides equally for all.
“The sad reality of today’s America is that while the wealthiest people and largest corporations are doing phenomenally well, the middle class is a disappearing and millions of Americans are working longer hours for lower wages,” Mr. Sanders said, The Hill reported. “Congress must start listening to the needs of ordinary Americans, not just the billionaires and their lobbyists.”
Mr. Sanders made the remarks during a breakfast sponsored by the AFL-CIO in New Hampshire on Labor Day.
He suggested the creation of more economic opportunities by providing jobs to fix “our crumbling infrastructure” and by “raising the minimum wage,” The Hill reported.
He also called on colleagues to pass “real campaign finance reform so that the Koch brothers and other billionaires are no longer able to buy elections,” he said, The Hill reported. He also said America’s overall economic policies should benefit all, “not just the very rich,” he said.
